If you fly down to or depart from Memambetsu Airport on a sunny day in August, save a little bit of your time to visit a sunflower field just next to the airport.
There are 400,000 sunflowers stretching out as far as the eye can see. This stunning sunshine-yellow view is a must-see. Even though you miss to come here in August, no worries! Another kind of sunflowers will bloom at the same spot from late September and early October.
If you are lucky enough to see an airplane departing or arriving, it will look like taking off from or touching down at the sunflower field. Many aviation photographers come over to capture that moment even from outside of Hokkaido. (Note that this airport does not host many flights in a day.)
