Looking for a local dining experience? A restaurant called Roman in Bekkai town might be a good destination. I must say it’s a little far from everywhere, but might be worth a visit if you are a real foodie traveler. This restaurant’s signature is a huge pork chop made with fresh Japanese pork that the locals love for over 30 years.
The restaurant has this retro looking, and the popular pork chop looks like this!
A huge chunk of grilled thick pork loin coated with sweet ketchup sauce! It is more tender and less greasy than you would imagine, as it is slowly cooked in the oven to remove excess fat.
They serve in two different sizes; a bigger one is 700g for 2,200 yen and a smaller one is 400g for 1,700 yen. You might not want to arrive at the restaurant super hungry as they take 50 min and 25 min to cook respectively.
My dad, who is such a meat lover, visits here to eat this pork chop all the way from Kitami driving for 2.5 hours one way from time to time. He even took my sisters and I to the restaurant one by one (=three times!). Yes, it’s that good, and of course we all loved it!
The restaurant has other menu options as well, including ramen noodle and curry rice, in case you want to share the pork chop and something else with your family and friends :)
