Want to try Hokkaido-style lamb BBQ? Mongol serves the best lamb in Kitami.
Kitami has a strong preference on normal Japanese BBQ (mostly beef), while the rest of Hokkaido prefers lamb BBQ , known as Jingisukan ("Genghis Khan"). (Fun fact: Kitami has more BBQ restaurants per capita than any other city in Japan!) In such a beef-oriented city, Mongol nails it with incredibly fresh lamb.
Their lamb is nicely chewy and juicy. They serve fresh meat that has never been frozen. It is so fresh that it doesn’t have that unique smell of lamb which many people don’t like (including myself). I had never liked eating lamb until I tried their lamb!
The restaurant is small but cozy, and staff there are very friendly as well. A plate of lamb for one person is just 680 yen, including some vegetables to grill with the meat. They also have pork, chicken and many side dishes. After enjoying BBQ, don’t forget to finish it off with their ramen!
